A NOTE FROM OUR ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Join us for a long weekend packed with performance, play, participation and so much more. This year, SPILL gives you plenty of opportunities to get involved, from an outdoor building project using masses of brightly coloured sticks on the Cornhill, to a family-friendly performance on art and destruction.
Many of our artists have delved into local and regional histories, exploring topics including the Suffolk fishing industry and the lived of the mixed heritage children fathered by American servicemen stationed in Suffolk. We are excited for you to see the outcomes of this research!
SPILL Festival offers new ways of seeing the world; from a performance that shares stories of what it is like to be a child of Deaf adults, to the hopes and ears of schoolchildren imagining an East Anglia invaded by monsters. Back in the real world, our outdoor photographic exhibition proudly showcases images of Ipswich by young people who want to show you the town as they see it.
This festival also encourages us to think about the places we call home, with a new artwork featuring domestic objects screen printed onto giant sails. SPILL Think Tank will also be the site of a playful and immersive show, helping us explore how ritual and curiosity can help us build community.
We wish you well on your journey.
- Robin Deacon, SPILL Artistic Director + CEO
