LOCAL DANCERS NEEDED

On Tuesday 4th June, SPILL and Duckie will host The Posh Club at Ipswich Town Hall. This event is a glittering posh knees up with classic afternoon tea, a spectacular variety show, social intercourse and a light afternoon discotheque for swanky senior citizens.

We are looking for four local dancers to get involved in our Cake Dance, a toe-tapping little musical number for us to bring out the cake. The Cake Dance will be choreographed by Karen Pratt and we are looking for some dancers who can bring the glamour – think finger clicking and Charleston inspired movements.

Dancers will need to be available to attend all of the the following dates:

  • Saturday 18th May, 10.30am-2.30pm, SPILL Think Tank (rehearsal)

  • Saturday 25th May, 2.00pm – 5.00pm, SPILL Think Tank (rehearsal)

  • Tuesday 4th June, 10.30am – 3.30pm, Ipswich Town Hall (performance)

Dancers will be paid £11.50 per hour and a maximum of 12 hours work is required. Dancers should have some previous performance experience and be 18 years+.

Dancers are responsible for their own tax and national insurance contributions. Fee will be paid upon receipt of a valid invoice.

If you would like to apply for this role, please email helen@spillfestival.com by Wednesday 15th May. Please include a brief overview of your performance experience.

VOLUNTEERING

POSH CLUB - Tuesday 4 JUNE 2024

This June SPILL and Duckie are bringing The Posh Club to Ipswich. This event is a glittering posh knees-up with classic afternoon tea, a spectacular variety show, social intercourse and a light afternoon discotheque. The Posh Club is for swanky senior citizens, elegant elders and glamorous golden girls and geezers.

We are looking for voguish volunteers to help us at this event. No experience is necessary, but you must enjoy a natter and look great in a dickie bow! Roles will include meeting and greeting people, serving food and drink, setting up, decorating the space and packing down, helping in the kitchen, and maybe, if you’re lucky, a little dancing…

The Posh Club will be on Tuesday 4th June 2024, 12.00pm-3.00pm, at the Grand Hall, Ipswich Town Hall, Cornhill, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP1 1DH. The volunteer shift will be 9.00am-4.00pm.

The performers include: Shirley Classy, the UK’s premier Shirley Bassey tribute act; Rosie May, who will be bringing her joyful carnival dances; and Pink Suits, a queer cabaret collective joining us from Margate. Plus their will be dancing, a raffle and afternoon tea!

At The Posh Club you need to look your best so volunteers are asked to dress as ‘posh waiters’ wearing any combination of black and white (shirt, skirt, trousers, kilt, dress etc.) combined with glamorous accessories of your choice, think hotel waiting staff in an Agatha Christie novel. It is up to you how far you go with this, some volunteers enjoy an understated look whereas others rock up in full drag. Duckie also supply bow ties and aprons to complete the look for those that want to wear them.

Some of the volunteer roles will be allocated in advance and there will also be a briefing on the day to run you through the event. Reasonable travel expenses (e.g bus ticket, petrol, parking, train tickets) will be paid, please ensure you get a receipt so we can reimburse you.  Volunteers are provided with tea, coffee and pastries in the morning, sandwiches and cakes at lunch time and a glass of cava at the end of the show!

About Duckie and The Posh Club

The Posh Club is a glamorous performance and social club for older people hosted by London-based LGBTQ artist collective Duckie. This will be the first time The Posh Club has happened in Ipswich. It’s an event held in the heart of the community and emphasises dressing up, access to live performance, social connectivity and intergenerational volunteering.

If you’re interested in volunteering please register online. For more info please contact Becca, Duckie’s Nationwide Gaffer, via becca@theposhclub.co.uk or by calling 07366541903.

WORK EXPERIENCE + INTERNSHIPS

We only offer internships when we can pay for them. Usually this is when we participate in a scheme that enables us to do so, or when a person wishing to intern is on a scheme that provides them with paid resource for an experience which we can then facilitate.

We are experienced hosts for people seeking a placement for a school or college course, or professional development scheme. Recent placements with us include an arts manager from India on a British Council funded trip, and a student from a local university undertaking their second year degree course placement.

To find out more about internships or placements please contact info@spillfestival.com.
