Birthday Girl is a performance that never happened - the latest part of The Blood Lettings, Giovanna Maria Casetta’s series of work exploring issues around blood and the fragility of human bodies.

Originally planned to mark her 60th birthday, Giovanna was forced to indefinitely postpone the piece when lockdown began in spring 2020. She invites you to come on an imaginary journey, looking at what the performance would have been, what happens when it is separated from the occasion it was created for, and how Covid 19 has changed the landscape of live art practice.

This version of Birthday Girl uses footage, text and artifacts from previous Blood Lettings to explore these ideas through an intimate exchange between performer and spectator.

Think Tank Live events start with a performance or presentation from our featured artist, followed by a Q&A session hosted by our Artistic Director, Robin Deacon. Stick around afterwards for drinks and chat.
