BROWN BABIES
KIRSTY TALLENT
SAT 25 OCT | THE KEY
Step into the world of Brown Babies, the bold new play in development by theatre maker Kirsty Tallent, as she shares insights from her research and creative process, exploring themes of identity, belonging, and memory.
Kirsty Tallent was born in Ipswich in 1985 to a white mother and Black US Air Force father who first met on the dancefloor of legendary Ipswich club Cinderella’s.
US Air Force personnel have been continuously stationed in Suffolk since 1942, with the mixed heritage children of white mothers and African-American US servicemen termed ‘brown babies’ by the American press.
Raised on Nacton council estate by her mum, Kirsty met her dad for the first time aged 36, a significant moment in her understanding of her place in the world.
Join Kirsty for a participatory workshop and discussion at the original site of Cindy’s nightclub, The Key.
This fun, informal and interactive workshop invites you to listen, reflect, and contribute.
Were you there when the bass dropped and the lights dazzled at CINDYS, the legendary nightclub that defined an era? Did you dance on the floor of a thousand lights? Kirsty wants to hear your stories.
Share your memories of the people, the music, and the magic that made CINDYS more than just a club - it was a moment in time.
And the ultimate question: Hats or Cindys? What do you choose?
