According to Age UK, more than a million older people say they go over a month without speaking to another person.
In a special afternoon event at the Think Tank, we welcome Simon Casson from LGBTQ artist collective Duckie - founder of the Posh Club social events for glamorous elders - to lead a conversation on loneliness and isolation in the older communities of Suffolk.
How can artists support the work of social care bodies? What role can the arts play in wellbeing, keeping people active and connecting them with others? What does it mean for arts organisations to ‘serve’ older people?
This event is open to everyone. Whether you are an older person, care for older people, or are just interested in learning more, we invite you to come for tea, cake and a natter with us, ahead of the very first Ipswich Posh Club this summer.
Think Tank Live events start with a performance or presentation from our featured artist, followed by a Q&A session hosted by our Artistic Director, Robin Deacon. Stick around afterwards for drinks and chat.

The Posh Club is a glamorous performance and social club for older people held regularly in five locations across London and the South East. Each three-and-a-half hour event is styled as a tongue-in-cheek ‘posh’ 1940’s afternoon tea with three live show business turns, volunteer waiters in black tie, vintage crockery and an in-house pianist.
Duckie are a group of veteran LGBTQ club runners that emerged out of south London’s Vauxhall a quarter of a century ago. Renowned for its mix of progressive pub rock by DJs Readers Wifes with arty, provocative short stage shows introduced by its indefatigable toastess Amy Lamé, and socially flanked by notorious doorwhores The Cloths, it has run every Saturday night at Royal Vauxhall Tavern for the past 26 years.
